Guide Sheet for Web Lessons 5
Linear Equations II
 Preliminaries
  • Work in teams of two.
  • Print 2 copies of this page by using the Print button on the menu bar.
  • Use graph paper to graph your equations.
  • Each member of the team will complete the assigned tasks and hand them in tomorrow to be evaluated.
  • Read through all the instructions and evaluation criteria before you begin.
 Instructions
  • Follow this link to the lesson web site.
  • The page that will appear has a list of topics; select HEALTH.
  • On the left side of the HEALTH page there are tabs linked to three different lessons.
  • Label your papers with the title of the lesson and number each of your responses appropriately.

Lesson 1:

Healthy Hearts:

  • Use the HEALTHY HEARTS tab to access the lesson.
  • Print the lesson using the link at the top of the lesson page.
  • (1-5) Answer questions 1-5. For questions 2-5, use the average heart rate of your team.
  • (6) Think of the relationship of number of heartbeats and years lived. Write a linear equation that expresses this relationship, using your team heart rate.
  • (7) There is something a little unusual about your equation. What is it?
  • (8) Graph your equation. Label axes with variable names and scales increments.
Lesson 2:

Medicine and You:
  • Press the MEDICINE AND YOU tab to access the lesson.
  • Print the lesson using the link at the top of the lesson.
  • Read through the first three questions and fill out the table in question 4.
  • (1) Graph ordered pairs created with the data from the 1st and 2nd columns.
  • (2) What are the two variables that make up the ordered pairs? Label your axes accordingly and indicate the scale
  • (3) Is the relationship between the variables linear? Why or why not?
  • Connect your points with a smooth curve.
  • Staple your table to the back of your graph.
  • Evaluation

Each lesson is worth 50 points; 35 points for the questions and 15 points for the graph. Your graph will be evaluated for accuracy, precision and a wee bit for beauty!
